What is Probus?
A fellowship to promote members’ social and intellectual well-being through congenial companionship. Our alternate speaker meetings and lunches are ideal for getting to know other members and for meeting new friends.
How many members do you have?
It varies but we aim to have around 40 plus members with a maximum of 50.
Who can join?
All retired, or semi-retired, ladies wishing to enjoy the companionship of like-minded ladies.
What happens at the meetings?
The best way to find out is to arrange to come along, but to give you an idea of what happens we start by chatting with other members and having coffee. Announcements, any club business plus the giving of birthday cards to those who have a forthcoming birthday that month are made by the chairman prior to the speaker followed by a vote of thanks by the Chairman or nominated member. On the lunches every other month announcements are made including a short update on any members who might be unwell plus the giving of Birthday cards to those not present at the speaker meeting.
How formal is it?
The dress code for lunches is smart casual. You choose your seat on arrival and although there are no restrictions as to where you sit, we do encourage everyone to sit with new members and get to know them.
How much does it cost?
The initial joining fee is £25. The annual membership subs are just £25 a year and you pay approximately between £17 – £23 for each lunch depending on how many courses you choose to attend.
Who runs the club?
An elected committee. We encourage all members to serve at least once sometime during their membership. This is only fair as it helps to spread the workload and makes sure we have an ongoing supply of committee members who can bring fresh ideas to the table.
Would I have to join immediately.
No. We know it’s not always easy to decide straightaway so we’re happy for you to attend another speaker meeting or lunch before making up your mind.
